Download now or watch on posterous KinglakeWestHall.mov (6317 KB) The Hall at Kinglake West is very intact, with no sign of damage from February’s fires, sitting only a hundred metres or so from the local CFA. However, if you go out the back and look over to the left side, the trees tell an important [...]

My start in social media began with relaying/retweeting important information on the #bushfires and #vicfires hashtags over on Twitter and I’ve already made visits to two of the affected areas from February’s Victorian bushfires…Flowerdale and Kinglake. Tomorrow, Sunday July 12, I’ll be out at Kinglake West assisting with a community event, so I’ll be seeing [...]

I’m predominantly a text and prose man, although, as a former cartoonist, I do think visually. However, with the events of this year it’s taken awhile to move toward video and/or videoblogging. Yesterday, I did some personal experiments with filetypes, cameras available and what video-serving sites were available. My eight-year-old step-son practicing on his bike [...]

I’ve just come away from watching tonight’s ABC Four Corners program about Marysville. It was a sharp reminder that, while some of us got through February with families intact and friends safe, those in the towns worst affected weren’t quite so fortunate. For Marysville’s CFA captain, Glen Fiske, there was the double blow of watching [...]

On February 7, my first real understanding of the bushfires that day came not from the internet on my home computer, but through a Twitter client on my iPhone. That initial app actually was handy, but was eventually joined by a few more that added more functionality to the mix. And while most of my [...]

Although tonight’s monitoring on Twitter showed a slight increase in problem fires from the previous two nights, for the most part, it’s nearing the time to think of getting fully back to one’s regular life and usual projects. Not long now to being able to put my normal graphics to do with my creative work [...]

During the time I’ve sat on #bushfires, #vicfires and #fireupdates and kept focused on the important information that was most needed, it’s been interesting to read the other tweets sometimes and see the various topics that crop up, some related to the fires, some not. A few topics are ones for valid discussion and debate [...]

Hate groups were put on notice that they wouldn’t be tolerated, yesterday. The invective used by them seriously jeopardized the chances of getting a fair trial of the person accused of the Churchill fire. So, our authories definitely put such groups on notice that they would be up on contempt-of-court charges. Up till last night, [...]

This evening, it was announced on relevent Twitter feeds that the fightfighters had suffered a fatality, one who died when a tree fell near Marysville. Until I check it a bit more, to my knowledge this has been the first firefighter fatality in this particular batch of fires. Our thoughts and condolences go to his [...]
